The Archival Research Catalog (ARC) is available from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

Use the instructions below to search ARC for all Nixon-related materials and/or for specific Textual Materials, White House Tapes, and Audiovisual Materials.

• Follow Steps 1 and 2 before you begin any Nixon-related searches below.

Search ARC

Start here to open the ARC search screen in a new window.

1. Open http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/
   
   
2. Press the yellow Search button to go to the Basic Search Form.
   

Search for Nixon materials in ARC

This is a broad search for all Nixon-related materials held by the National Archives. The results will include some items that include the term "Nixon" but may not be related to President Nixon or held by the Nixon Presidential Library. For specific searches, see below.

1. Enter Nixon in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. After Limit Results to, select 2000 from the drop-down box.
   
   
3. Click on the Search button.

Search for Textual Materials in ARC  [See Also:  Textual Materials]

Descriptions of collections and digital images of select Nixon Presidential Library textual materials are available in ARC.

1. Select Advanced Search.
   
   
2. Enter your search terms in the Find results area.
   
   
3. Click on Location of Archival Materials. Click on Deselect all. Select either or both "Richard Nixon Library - College Park" or/and "Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Birthplace" (Yorba Linda, California).
   
   
4. Under Type of Archival Materials, click on Deselect all. Select "Textual Records."
   
   
5. Click on the Search button at the top or bottom of the screen.

Search for White House Tapes in ARC  [See Also:  White House Tapes]

1. Enter the exact phrase {RN-WHT} in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. Click on the Search button.

Search for Digital Nixon Photos in ARC  [See Also:  Photographic Collections and White House Photographic Office Collection]

Many of the digital photos are from the Nixon White House Photographic Office (WHPO) collection of still photographs. The Variant Control Number field for each ARC record contains the Roll and Frame number needed to order from the WHPO collection [i.e. 8893(22)].

1. Select Digital copies in the Search ARC for bar.
   
   
2. In the Digital Copies Search box, click on Advanced Search.
   
   
3. Enter your search in the Find results area. (Alternatively, to find all of the digital photos, leave this area blank.)
   
   
4. Adjust Limit results to number as needed.
   
   
5. Click on Location of Archival Materials. Click on Deselect all. Select either or both "Richard Nixon Library - College Park" or/and "Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Birthplace" (Yorba Linda, California).
   
   
6. Under Type of Archival Materials, click on Deselect all. Select "Photographs and other Graphic Materials."
   
   
7. Click on the Search button at the top or bottom of the screen.
